Terror in the South Lands
by Cindy Hayes
Filmmakers Stan Wald and Jerry Misner have created a three hour documentary entitled, “Southern Exposure”, by Eyefull Productions, out of Tuscon, Arizona. This documentary outlines the seriousness of the illegal immigration issue and border security, specifically at the Mexican border.
The filmmakers spent three years with Border Patrol in Arizona, with the intention of showing both sides of the illegal immigration issue, however, what they found was astonishing. Criminals are coming to the United States by way of the Mexican border from known countries with terrorist ties. Wald and Misner discovered that not only is the Border Patrol capturing one out of four Mexicans crossing the border illegally, but they also found that statistic to include one out of four illegals that are coming from known terrorist nations, like Somalia, Yemen, Pakistan, and Sudan.
The Department of Homeland Security recently issued a Terrorist Watch for Texas in regards to the Somalian terrorist organization known as Al Shabaab. This organization is known to have ties to Al Qaeda, according to Joan Neuhaus Schaan, Homeland Security and Terrorism fellow at Rice University.
“The key is to get boots on the ground”, said Wald. “More Border Patrol agents are necessary.” He went on to say that the cartels in Mexico have “scouts camped out there” to let the illegals know when it is safe to cross the border.
Misner stated that, “Border Patrol catches only one in four coming across from terrorist countries.” He also said that Arabic passports have been found by Border Patrol along the border.
Both filmmakers support the Arizona Senate Bill 1070, which mirrors existing Federal laws regarding illegal immigration, but that are not being adhered to.
At this time, there is no release date set, but, according to the filmmakers, "Our primary goal has always been to have our documentary seen by as many people as possible." Their plan is to release this documentary on the internet for worldwide distribution once it is aired on television.
