With all due respect to your opinion, you should not try to insult the writer by saying : “Either you are knowledgeable of Islam and want to be controversial, or you are ignorant of Islam and are suggesting something that is considered blasphemous in Islam and warrants a fatwa”
Here you are saying that a fatwa can change certain verses which contradict your position that only God or his prophet can abrogate Quranic verses; a Fatwa is a man-made religious declaration. A Fatwa from the highest Islamic authority is what I suggested in my article to abrogate all verses that call for violence against the other.
Despite the fact that God stated in (15:9) that He will protect all the verses in the Quran, many changes took place in the Quran. If one examine Suyuti (Itqan, part 3, page 72) one would find that Aisha admitted that Surat Al-Ahzab used to have over 200 verses and now it contains only 73, so over 125 verses disappeared! Now if you read Al-Bukhari it says that the goat has eaten up some Quranic manuscripts which were stored under the bed according to Aisha. In ". Sahih Muslim III, p. 912. Omar Bin El-Khattab admitted his removal of the stoning verse and also removed another verse that emphasizes the financial support for those who are hesitant about believing in Islam. Therefore it is not Allah alone who abrogates, but also the prophet, other men and goats. A very important authority on abrogation is what we call the silent majority of the Moslems. Take for example verse (5-38) which prescribes the penalty for stealing by cutting the limbs of the thief. Most Moslem countries do not implement it without invalidating it publicly, as there was no opposition to it by the silent majority, because it is so cruel. Stoning verse for the adulteress has been abrogated in its effect from any legal system in most Moslem countries without removing it from the Quran, yet you would not hear anyone oppose such a move. Both of the above penalties were exchanged by incarceration, which is accepted by the silent majority because of the cruelty of the punishments. In essence then the public accepts the freezing of the effects of some verses without removing these verses from the Quran. In a way it is like annulling certain old laws without removing them from the constitution! Certain verses such as An-Nahl (16:80) that tells Moslems that they can use the skin of animals to make their homes, and verse (6-97) that tells Moslems how to use the stars for finding directions in travel are both abrogated in their effects without declaration since both are still part of the Quran.. Again here no actual abrogation took place yet who, in these days, would use the stars for directions when a simple compass can do a better job? Similarly who would use animal skin to make homes when steel and cement are so superior to animal skins? The above shows that in matters not related to faith, one can use whatever new inventions or technologies.
One might say that violence was needed in the past during the Islamic wars against the “infidels” but not anymore. Since Most Moslems claim that Islam is a religion of peace and mercy they can easily prove that by coming up with a Fatwa that abrogates these verses that call for violence.
